To the editor:

I am writing in support of building the new Newburyport Recreation and Youth Services recreation center. I consider the cost of constructing this facility reasonable and well worth paying given the benefits to this community.

I think it takes a village to raise the next generation and making sure that our youth is well cared for and prepared for the future is our responsibility. Because so many of today's parents work full-time, they are in need of thoughtful after-school programs for their children.

Providing a safe, well-constructed after-school facility where children can recreate in a healthy and educational way has become a necessity given the lifestyle of today's families.

I particularly like the location of the proposed youth and recreation center across the street from the middle school and an easy walk from the high school. I

think that if we build an attractive, conveniently located facility for our children, they will like it and use it often. Having such a facility will enhance the value of living in Newburyport for families, much as the Senior/Community Center has supported the quality of life for seniors.

I ask you to vote on May 13 in favor of building this new youth and recreation services center because it will be beneficial to our youth, to our parents and to our community.
