I am writing to express my unwavering support for the upcoming vote on May 13 regarding the Newburyport recreation center project. As a resident and subscriber of this newspaper for over 25 years, I have never felt more compelled to voice my opinion than I do today to emphasize the critical role this project plays in shaping a brighter future for our children.

The recreation center is not just a building; it represents an investment in our community's values—academic achievement, social awareness, cultural enrichment, and inclusivity. It is essential that we create a space where children can thrive in all aspects of life, embracing their diverse interests and backgrounds.

This project has been many years in the making and holds immense importance for our community, especially for our vulnerable middle school-aged children. Providing a dedicated space for recreation and support is critical not only for their development but also for the overall success of our town.

Newburyport Youth Services and Port Rec. have been at the forefront of supporting children and families, particularly those with special needs. Their commitment to providing resources that cater to the unique challenges faced by these families ensures that every child feels valued and included. This support is paramount in fostering a strong sense of belonging and empowerment, allowing children to pursue their passions in academics, arts, and culture.

By voting in favor of the recreation center, we are choosing to support children where they are, nurturing their growth and development in a safe, inclusive environment. Let us come together as a community to create a space that champions diversity, creativity, and collaboration.

I urge everyone to make informed decisions on their ballots this May. Let's invest in a future where all children can flourish and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of our community.

Please vote on May 13!
